Symbolic Weddings & Destination Weddings in Europe
Perhaps there is a place in Europe that has long been part of your story. A coastline in Portugal, a country house in Italy, a Greek island, the mountains of Slovenia or a quiet place somewhere in Northern Europe. For selected symbolic weddings and destination weddings in Europe, I accompany you to the place where your ceremony truly belongs – personal, multilingual and free from rigid traditions.
For me, a destination wedding does not have to mean travelling as far away as possible or choosing the most spectacular setting. What matters is that the place feels right for you. Perhaps it is connected to a shared journey, your families come from different countries or you simply want to combine your wedding with a few special days together with the people you love most.
As a wedding celebrant for destination weddings in Europe, I conduct your ceremony in English, German or Spanish and, if you wish, in a multilingual format. There is no standard wedding speech: your relationship, your story and the atmosphere of your chosen place are what shape the ceremony.
My main geographical focus is on the Canary Islands, Austria and mainland Spain with the Balearic Islands. For special weddings, I also accompany couples to selected locations elsewhere in Europe.
Where in Europe Can Your Symbolic Wedding Take Place?
Europe offers an extraordinary variety of landscapes, cultures and atmospheres. The goal is therefore not necessarily to find the most famous wedding destination, but the one that genuinely feels like you.
Italy – Country Houses, Lakes & Mediterranean Landscapes
Italy combines Mediterranean joy with historic places, wine regions, mountains and lakes. Whether you imagine a small country house, a garden, the coast or an intimate ceremony overlooking the landscape, Italy is especially suited to couples who want to combine nature, good food and a warm atmosphere.
Portugal – Atlantic Coast, Country Estates & Open Landscapes
Portugal offers dramatic Atlantic coastlines, wide beaches, rural estates and a relaxed atmosphere. Especially for elopements and smaller destination weddings, the combination of ocean, nature and light can create a very clear and personal setting.
Greece & Mediterranean Islands
Whitewashed houses, the sea, olive trees and long summer evenings make Greece a beautiful setting for symbolic weddings. Beyond the most famous islands, quieter places can be especially appealing if you dream of an intimate ceremony surrounded by nature and Mediterranean ease.
Croatia, Slovenia & Southeastern Europe
Between the Adriatic coast, lakes, mountains and green landscapes, Croatia, Slovenia and other parts of Southeastern Europe offer very different possibilities for a destination wedding. The combination of alpine scenery and Mediterranean lifestyle can be especially appealing.
Northern Europe – Nature, Calm & Wide-Open Spaces
Perhaps you are more drawn to the north: a fjord in Norway, a quiet lake in Sweden or the landscapes of Scotland. These places work especially well for intimate ceremonies and elopements where nature, peace and the shared experience are at the centre of the day.

What Kind of Place Fits Your Destination Wedding?
Sea & Coast
A ceremony overlooking the Atlantic, the Mediterranean or a secluded bay can bring a sense of freedom and lightness to your day. Private terraces, small hotels, villas and coastal venues often offer more privacy and better planning conditions than public beaches.
Country Houses, Villas & Private Estates
A country house or private villa can bring the ceremony, dinner and celebration together in one place. Especially at a destination wedding, this can create the feeling of spending several meaningful days together instead of celebrating for only a few hours.
Mountains, Lakes & Natural Settings
Mountains, lakes, forests and other natural locations create a calm and powerful setting for symbolic weddings and elopements. For smaller celebrations in particular, the landscape itself can become part of the ceremony without much additional decoration or staging.
A Place from Your Own Story
Perhaps there is a village, holiday home, garden or viewpoint that has long been part of your shared story. Places like these often feel especially meaningful because they already hold memories. Your wedding then carries a depth that no traditional wedding venue can simply recreate.
Ceremonies I Offer Across Europe
At selected destinations in Europe, I accompany you for:
- Symbolic weddings – personal, individual and independent of the legal civil marriage
- Destination weddings – when your wedding becomes part of a shared journey
- Elopements – just the two of you or with a small circle of your closest people
- Vow renewals – to consciously celebrate your journey together in a place that means something to you
- Welcome ceremonies – personal family ceremonies in a location that feels meaningful
- Ceremonies for transitions & new chapters in life – for example new beginnings, moving abroad or other meaningful changes
Every ceremony is created individually from your story. There are no compulsory texts, fixed rituals or standard wedding programmes. Together, we decide which words, people and elements genuinely belong to you.
Multilingual Destination Weddings in Europe
International weddings often bring together people from several countries. That is why I conduct your symbolic wedding in English, German or Spanish and, if you wish, in a multilingual format.
A multilingual ceremony does not mean repeating every sentence several times. We can weave the languages together so that all the important people can follow emotionally while the ceremony still feels natural, personal and flowing.
Planning a Destination Wedding in Europe
A wedding abroad comes with a few practical questions beyond the ceremony itself: travel, accommodation, venue, weather, local suppliers and sometimes several languages within the wedding party.
My main role is the creation and officiation of your personal ceremony. I am also happy to coordinate with your wedding planner, venue and other suppliers so that everything works smoothly together on your wedding day.
Travel and, where necessary, accommodation costs depend on the destination and are clearly included in your individual proposal in advance.
My Main Destinations: Canary Islands, Austria & Spain
You can find dedicated pages for these destinations on Inselboda:
If your dream destination is somewhere else in Europe, tell me about it. Not every place has to be listed on my website – sometimes a special ceremony starts with a simple question: “Would you come there with us?”
Frequently Asked Questions About Symbolic Weddings & Destination Weddings in Europe
Do you officiate symbolic weddings anywhere in Europe?
My main focus is on the Canary Islands, Austria and Spain. For selected symbolic weddings, elopements and destination weddings, I also accompany couples to special locations elsewhere in Europe. Send me your idea and we can see together whether it works in terms of timing and logistics.
Is a symbolic wedding abroad in Europe legally binding?
My ceremonies are symbolic and do not replace a legal civil marriage. Many couples complete the legal part separately and then celebrate their personal symbolic wedding at their chosen destination.
Which languages can you conduct a destination wedding in?
I conduct ceremonies in English, German and Spanish and can also create multilingual ceremonies so that guests from different countries can feel emotionally included.
Can we contact you even if our destination is not listed on the website?
Yes. The countries and regions mentioned here are examples rather than a complete list. If you have a special place somewhere in Europe in mind, tell me about it and we can explore whether and how your ceremony can take place there.
How are travel costs calculated for a destination wedding?
Travel and, where necessary, accommodation costs depend on the destination, travel time and individual requirements. You will receive a transparent personalised proposal in advance so you know exactly which additional costs apply.
Do you already have a special place in Europe in mind for your ceremony?
Tell me about yourselves and your destination. In a relaxed, no-obligation conversation, we can see whether I can accompany you there and what your ceremony could look like.
